* En 1893, le chimiste français Dr Henri Moissan découvrit dans le cratère de la vallée du Déabro une combinaison de particules de carbone et de silicium d'une brillance exceptionnelle, dont l'aspect et la cristallisation interne ressemblaient à celles du diamant.
* En 1995, Charles & Colvard (« CC USA ») a simulé avec succès l'environnement de croissance naturel pour produire une moissanite presque incolore, certifiée par la GIA American Gemological Authority et répondant aux mêmes normes strictes du GRA pour l'identification de la couleur que les vrais diamants.
